Research
The Society will undertake research
in Scottish records on all aspects of your ancestry
provided we have a good starting point for tracing your
family tree.
We need enough information to identify correctly the
person who is our starting point: this is generally
a birth, marriage or death record giving the parents'
names; of course, the more information you can provide
the better. We can trace back in time or forward to
the present day;
Two of our most successful searches
were a family of tenant farmers in Falkirk traced back
to 1605 and a family of shipmasters in Dysart going
back to 1670.
Many of our searches go back to the 1700s but of course,
due to the lack of records and the voluntary nature
of registration prior to 1855, sometimes we can only
trace back as far as the early 1800s.
We will however use all possible resources to find out
as much as we can about your family tree.
