Research Costs
Charges are based on the time spent on research, and include the fees we must pay to the Registrar General for access to the records.

Unfortunately it is difficult to estimate in advance the amount of time needed for any piece of genealogical research e.g. more time will be needed to trace a family with a common surname living in a large city.

Our hourly rate is £22.00 but we ask for a deposit of £25.00 before commencing research. We will use your deposit to do one hour of research.

You can commission research up to a maximum cost which suits your budget. This amount will not be exceeded without prior consultation. Should the trail run cold before this sum is reached you will only be charged for the work done.

For your guidance, the average cost of tracing one ancestral line back as far as possible is between £75.00 and £150.00.
